Am I crazy for peanut butter? Yes. But you know who’s crazier? Crazy Richard.

Crazy Richard's Peanut Butter
After nearly 30 years Crazy Richard’s may “still be crazy after all these years.” We make our Peanut Butter the old fashioned way with no salt, sugar, hydrogenated oils or trans fats added. We’re Totally Nuts, and that’s just what our Peanut Butter contains, only nuts. Oil separation occurs naturally, just stir it up!
That excerpt from their website pretty much sums them up. Crazy Richard’s is an all natural peanut butter brand with 1 ingredient: peanuts. They’ve been recognized as some of the best all-natural peanut butter out there by Men’s Magazine and other taste tests. I was super excited when Nanette from Crazy Richard’s sent over these two jars for me to sample.
I was a bit worried about these, and I’ll tell you why: You might think it’s easy to make a product with 1 ingredient. Well, frankly, I think that’s the hardest thing to do. 1 ingredient means no playing with flavors and proportions to find that magic formula. 1 ingredient means 1 chance to get it right, and that’s not easy to do. As a lover of salted peanut butter, I was wondering what flavor this would have. Like their mission statement says, oil separation is natural and both required stirring to get to the right consistency, which I never mind but some people might.

Crazy Richard's Chunky Peanut Butter
The first one I tried was Crazy Richard’s Chunky Peanut Butter. Since I’m used to flavored butters, I don’t have chunky style that much. I was pleased to see just how “chunky” they made theirs; it really lives up to the name! Whereas I think most chunky is just coarsely ground, Crazy Richard’s seemed to be their naturally smooth peanut butter mixed with a generous portion of crushed peanuts. I was equally impressed by the flavor, namely that it had so much of it. I prefer salted peanut butter because I’ve had too many unsalted that were over roasted and ground and came out bland. Not so with Crazy Richard’s; each bit gave a very clear and pronounce peanut flavor.

Peanut Pumpkin Flax Yogurt With Crazy Richards Peanut Butter And Cinnamon Roll Granola
That experience had me geared up to try the creamy style. This time, I tasted it over some yogurt. Again, the flavor of peanut was very prevalent and delicious! My first instinct was to add salt but I resisted since that might interfere with the yogurt, and I’m glad I did because it would have been completely unnecessary. One thing I liked about both peanut butters was their thin consistency, even when fully stirred. I don’t prefer a thin or thick peanut butter, rather that my peanut butter be one or the other, and not some midpoint. Thin peanut butter’s like this are great for putting on cold or room temperature items like muffins, yogurt, or ice cream. They’re also what I prefer to use in baking. And since Crazy Richard’s has no added salt, it’s even better for baking so that you can season to taste.
Crazy Richard’s is sold in gourmet grocery stores as well as Whole Foods. My local Whole Foods do not carry it but yours might, and you can always request to your store manager a product to stock. You can also order Crazy Richard’s Peanut Butter from their website, Crazyrichards.com

I spy some Peanut Butter Co. in the background!
Great review. I appreciate the detail you go into instead of just saying, “it’s good you should try it.” Thanks!
